H&M released a preview of its collaboration line with Lanvin. So far things look phenomenal.
Everything is reminiscent of collections from the past few seasons. I love the black, I wouldn't mind seeing some color though! Oh and I love the sunglasses too.

Fashion's Night Out: Georgetown

I feel so guilty that I have had these on my camera for the past month but school became really busy. Anyways here are some pictures from Georgetown's Fashion's Night Out. My brother was kind enough to take me because everyone else had prior engagements to attend to.
I think I stayed for about 3 hours and left with some pretty good goodies. Diesel gave out totes, Juicy Couture had a silly band version of the "J", a lot of stores had small snacks and drinks and Vineyard Vines gave away Whale hats.

At 16, Lindsey Wixson is holding the title held by many elder women...cat lady.
Only kidding! The shoot is from a Barney's catalogue and I think its more of a series of playing in your grandmother's house.

I like the quirky appearances from the cat. It makes me wish my cat made more funny faces on camera...every once in a while you can see him with his tongue sticking out.

Rings have become one of my favorite jewelry accessories lately. I am especially fond of the double, trip and quadruple finger ring, although my fingers being constrained makes it hard to do some work.
I think I'm especially fond to finding unique chunky cocktail rings. I love animals, stones, croses, everything basiclly!

Miuccia's Prada Spring 2011 show, was an array of bold blues and oranges and a pop of bananas? Yes bananas. One of my favorite fruits and a fruit that can help you fall asleep. Her show made no one sleep though, it was fun, quirky and showcased bold stripes and contrasting colors that will be a statement for Spring.
Enough of that though because I would like to make a more formal entry later.
As for me, schools kicking into full gear with projects and midterms this and next week. Stressed me? No...of course not. My sarcasm probably can't be properly read through that, so I'll just answer by saying yes, I'm stressed. Sociology in a strange way(only because its one of my least favorite courses this semester) has helped me be almost zen like recently.
Anyways I was at target yesterday thinking what dress up as for Halloween. In seeing the options available, I am considering either Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz or a bunny from Louis Vuitton's Fall 2009 show. I'm almost 99% sure that I'm going to be Dorothy because I'm not sure how many people will know where I'm from. Plus I think it would read too much like, "I'm a mouse, duh!".

This scarf looks incredibly comfortable and warm, especially since I'm freezing and uncomfortable in one of my classrooms right now(never fear class is just about over).
Fall weather is really coming fast and it reminds me I need to stock up on some trendy cozy knits. I hope to find a very warm large crochet/knit grandfather sweater in cream and a thick scarf. Alexa Chung's Madwell line has a really cute grandfather sweater too bad its out of my price range! Actually I really liked all of Chung's Madwell collection, it fit her style very well. If you can't already tell we have similar styles and I take a good amount of inspiration from her simple and sweet looks. I'll post some later but for now I have to go.

I am so glad Urban Outfitters is selling this ear cuff, considering I've been on the search for one just like this. I love the look of the fringe earring and swept hair, so the earring is taking the same form as the hair but it's still visible that its an earring. Besides that look fringe earrings can look amazing on girls with shorter hair too.

By the way "voglio" means "i desire" in Italian.

Well I'm leaving for FNO soon in Georgetown. I'll definitely grab a ton of photos.

Its the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.....

Fashion shows officially started for Spring 2011! A celebration took place Wednesday night in various cities(London, NYC, Paris) to kick off one of the several times of the year we have to enjoy new looks from all of our favorite designers. I have seen some coverage of what took place Wednesday and have read some news about FNO, but like one of my friends I'm avoiding it because unfortunately I cannot attend this year. I'm really jealous of all my friends in NYC who will be getting to see all the designers, models and celebrities. I made them promise to tell them all I love them! Ok moving on...no but I will be attending Georgetown's Fashion Night Out. It may not be as fun as New York's, Paris' or Milan's but at least D.C. is moving closer to becoming a style capitol.
I should be posting some of my favorite looks and trend predictions as my favorite shows come along. Sorry for the primarily text update, I have been completely swamped with work! Well now I am off to bed to get the 5 hours of sleep I deserve after a long day beginning at 6 a.m.

H&M confirms Collaboration Rumors!

I am being completely serious when I say that the other day I was just thinking/dreaming of a Lanvin collaboration. My dream came true when H&M confirmed that Alber Elbaz from Lanvin will be making a collection for H&M late this fall! This really turned around a bad day and now I know what I will be asking for for my birthday!

I sincerley hope that H&M decides to send clothing to the Metro Center H&M or Georgetown or even Tysons. If I have to drive all the way to Tyson's Corner to get Alber Elbaz designs than so be it!

Now the question is what she would be expecting? Necklaces? Shoes? Print t-shirts? DRAPED DRESSES? (I would appreciate if Mr. Elbaz made all of the above. While we are at it please have them delivered to my home!)

I just saw these and aren't they adorable? Artist Andrew Yang was asked by Barneys New York to create these one-of a kind dolls in honor of Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington in honor of Fashion's Night Out.
One thing you may have noticed is missing is...Anna's signature glasses! Alas without them I still think the dolls are very sweet. I could just imagine them being little trinkets to have on your desk or on your bedroom windowsill.
Oh I forgot to mention the dolls will be auctioned off on http://www.charitybuzz.com/ benefiting the New York City Aid's Fund, the same organization the FNO T-shirt sales are going too!

Fashion's Night Out!

I just watched this commercial for Fashion's Night Out, although I've read some negative reviews on the model's talking(here) I think it's pretty cute! I like how they dressed up the shirts with what looks like bridal skirts. It's very JCrew, I could definitely see JCrew making a wedding dress(if they haven't already) with a basic white tee and bib necklace and a taffeta or silk skirt. It could be an interesting juxtaposition! Anyways to steer away from my blah blah blah....

Did Sasha use the shirt as a hair accessory?

I like it. Now I'm trying to think what other ways you could use the shirt instead of a shirt...so there's a bag, a pillow...Ok I'm out of ideas.

I'm not sure if I'm going yet. I don't think I can even go because they might have sold out of tickets but I still would like to buy a shirt because the sales benefit the NYC AIDS Fund in the NY Community Trust.

Well I have to get back to reading I'm crammed already and its only the fourth day of school.

My bag arrived quicker than I thought and as promised a photograph with some accessories.I like it even more in person I think it perfectly exemplifies a menswear/classic prep look. Paired with clogs or wedges its chic look.

I took a second shot with more accessories, love my bananas? I found them in Honduras at a street market and had to beg my Mom for them. She was sweet enough to go back and get them for me as a gift:)

Please excuse the poor lighting. It's raining outside and I only have one main light in my room that isn't even that great of a light source!

This also gives me a chance to show off a necklace I bought about a month ago from ALDO. It has a tribal/South American vibe to it.

Something I discovered after I bought it, is that it can be worn two ways. You can just turn around the plate and it has a different design.
This side kind of reminds me of a Koi fish. It almost looks like two Koi fish reaching to kiss each other. I'm not sure why, but maybe I'm just too imaginative.

Oh in case you are wondering what I'm using to model my necklace it's a tape sculputral bust. It was inspired by Mark Jenkins. He creates a lot of quirky street art using packaging tape. He's a local artist but has had shows around the globe. Hes installed work around D.C. but I've never seen it in person only through photos.
So following his work, I made a few with art club and ended up using one as a dress form for my final art projects. Its been in my room collecting dust and I just realized it would be perfect for modeling things.
Anyways I'll be posting again in the next few days. I meant to shoot some stuff outside but this rain will be here another day.

The twin fawn were preserved by a taxidermist who found them in the womb of their dead mother on the side of the road. They truly capture an essence of eternal beauty which I think is important for every design. To create something timeless as these two will forever be.

Definitely check out her work on her website. She made great work on the show.

Halle Berry Graces US September Issue

I can't believe I forgot to post this last night. Congratulations to Halle Berry for being the first Black woman in 21 years to be on the cover of the September issue! The last Black woman to be on the cover was Naomi Campbell in 1989.
I am so excited for this issue to arrive in the mail not only because it has Halle Berry but because the issue is 726 pages!

New Purchase

My latest purchase was inspired by the world's most stylist woman and one of my style icons. British television host and model Alexa Chung nabbed the title from Vogue magazine's list late last year for her unique style. Alexa has been seen wearing Mulberry's "Alexa" bag numerous times and after lusting over it for months now I finally found a inexpensive look alike(not a replica).

I was even able to get a 15% off discount so cheers for saving money! I am after all on a college student budget. Here's the bag I bought.

Although it doesn't have the same buckles as the original I like that it kept the doctor/man satchel look. I'll post a photo once it comes in the mail. I hope it comes before school. I'm both sad and eager for school to start. I'll miss the lazy summer days but I'm happy to see friends and go on a regular schedule again.

I wish I had an extra $300 lying around because this tribute book looks beautiful.
Visionaire created a limited box set book dedicated to the late designer entitled Visionaire 58 Spirit, A Tribute to Lee Alexander McQueen.
It really does look like a beautiful book and perfect for any fashion lover.
What's even more beautiful is that the pages are made from seeded flowers so if someone were to plant them they would bloom. From death comes life.
Unfortunately I imagine the book will sell out before I have a chance to purchase it. Next time I'm at a book store I hope I'm able to find this other tribute book.

I checked Borders on Sunday but had no luck so wish me luck today!

Sorry I have been missing in action longer than I anticipated. I took a nice vacation to Florida and then was hanging around. I went shopping in Florida and found some good finds and then went thrifting and found even better finds. I have also been reading some good fashion books(Fashion and Surrealism and Christian Lacroix and Fashion) so I should be making posts on them in the near future.

Most notably known for her roles in Wicker Park,Inglorious Bastards and the French film Joyeux Noel, Diane Kruger is also highly noted for her place in the fashion industry. Friend to Karl Lagerfeld, she often is spotted at Chanel shows or spotted wearing it. She has also worn looks from Marchesa, Atelier Versace, Jason Wu, Balmain and Chrisitian Dior. Off the red carpet she her looks are continuously chic and fashion forward. She definitely has created her own personal style which include hats, scarves, boots, skirts and oxfords.

Item of the Week: Yves Saint Laurent Y-Mail Complexion Palette

For some reason of another I have liked collecting things that look like envelopes.
YSL already has a clutch styled in a "y-mail" way.
necklace envelopes and I especially love the YSL Y-Mail clutch.

But I adore the limited edition y-mail complexion palette. It's so tiny and cutesy. It even has a matching bag. The design of the make up itself is also interesting. More importantly besides the design the colors are available for light or dark skin. And they are flattering!

ZAC POSEN'S TARGET LINE

About a week from now Zac Posen's line for Target will be hitting stores. Pieces from the line run less than $200 and include swimsuits, cocktail dresses and more casual items. The line is so beautiful and the benefit is how affordable it is.

Here are some of my favorite pieces from the lookbook.

I really like when over sized bows are put on interesting parts of a dress besides the front or back part of a wist, so the bow accent on the side is very sweet and unexpected. The full wrap around the waist works well for the dress, if it were just limited to where the bow is, the dress would look almost incomplete. The pockets help reduce the dresses more formal look and make it appropriate for casual occasions. With the right accessories and shoes it could work for semi-formal events though. I am curious to see what the back looks like!

The same print is also available in a skirt form; although, I am not sure I could pull of the bikini top like the model does! I believe the print is floral, so of course I am in love with it.

I will be completely honest when I say had I not watched a video on this dress, I would have just passed by it at the store. I think the way Zac said it was that the dress allowed for the person to be creative and almost act like the designer. The silver rings that look like washers are actually snaps that allow you to drape or pleat the skirt in different ways. I'm definitely curious what ways people will come up with! I wonder what it would look like if someone draped it on the bottom short enough to make it a top/tunic. The color almost gives it an industrial chic look, I couldn't see it work in any color.

I thought this dress was beyond something would be available at Target. The dress has the versatility to work as two different dresses. One has the ability to remove the ruffled piece to get an a-line dress. The video shows the model removing the dress. I'm not sure on the exact color of the dress but the video showed it was in navy, it's also available in a red! Although I don't think I could pull of red without looking washed out.

And last but not least is a gown in the collection. From afar the print looks like some sort of 90's explosion print, but close up there are actually safety pins. Interesting, but I don't think I could pull off the long gown look.

Well here are some other pieces I sort of liked!

I wonder if the hat's apart of the line, I really like it.

I really want to take one of these pieces with me to Italy so I think its between the bow dress and ruffled two look piece.

I have been in love with the color mint ever since Burberry Prorsum's Spring 2010 collection that featured pastel colors including mint. I even was painting my nail that color for a few weeks( my nail polish is running low though so I changed to coral).
Anyways, for the spring and summer I like to carry small side bags so I love this small cross body pounch in mint. The fringe adds a bohemian twist to it!

So this whole week-end I have to work on a paper for my Roots of Racism class. It's an interesting paper since we were allowed to pick the topic, but it's just so much research. Anyways I chose to write about racism in the fashion industry with a concentration on models. So I think I'm going to write about some of the history of modeling and when models of different races started appearing on magazine covers and runway shows.
I have had this book checked out for like 3 months from my school's library. I keep renewing it.

I decided to post on Freja as an inspiration for future looks . I love how versatile she is. She pulls of edgy looks such as with Balmain but she can look sophisticated in romantic dresses like with Chanel and Lanvin.
I would consider my style to be romantic and bohemian but I would love to be able to dress more edgy. I will make attempts a Freja looks this week, especially edgy ones.

Item of the Week: Zara Striped Blazer

Blazers were perhaps one of my favorite staple pieces this year. It really has the most versatile look. I played it kind of safe for a while and just stuck to the basic black structured piece and paired it was jeans, dresses and long shirts with leggings.

Though after browsing Zara's lookbook I found a beautiful nautical striped blazer perfect for spring, summer, fall and winter.

I would personally wear it with a loose white t shirt and denim shorts(dark wash or light). The shirt could be tucked in if but it depends if you were going for a more relaxed polish look or a more sophisticated one. Also pair with it some architectural inspired sandals.

Botanical Gardens

I decided to take advantage of the nice weather and visit the Botanical Gardens . The outside garden didn't have to many flowers in season, not even my beloved peony, but the indoor gardens are filled with so many beautiful plants.

The green house had separate rooms for each environment such as desert, tropical, etc. My two favorite rooms were the desert and orchid room(I'm not sure what climate that was considered). I never knew how many kinds of cacti existed so it was definentley interesting. And orchids are one of my favorite plants so it was nice to see the variations in color and texture.

The garden is adjacent to the Capitol so I captured a scenic view.

Here are a few of the 10,000 photos I took. I brought my 35mm and black and white film so I hope those come out beautiful as well!

Style I love: Carey Mulligan

Only recently did I watch "An Education" and fall in love with Carey Mulligan.

Mulligan played a teen-age girl in 1960's England. She's in love with all things French and with dreams to attend Oxford to study English. One day shes whisked away by an older man who shows her a life of classical music, art and traveling.

Here are a couple of my favorite pieces from her wardrobe.

She looks beautiful with both long and short hair. She pulls of the short hair really well because of her sweet face and great bone structure. Recently she's dyed her hair blonde but I think her red hair goes well with her porcelain skin.
Her looks are perfect examples of looks that are sexy but are not baring everything.

Mulligan recently just finished up Wall Street 2 and there are rumors of her being casted in the remake of My Fair Lady. I hope she continues to see success with her career.

Item of the Week: One of a Kind Vintage Flower Necklace

Free People created a series of necklaces each which has it's own unique charms and gems. All of the necklaces were hand made by a local artist and are an exclusive to the boutique.

I love this whole series, if I could afford it I would own every piece. Everything from the size of the charms to the colors is really eye popping. Now these probably wouldn't be pieces I would wear to a fancy event, but they can be used for more casual everyday looks.

It's really great to own something that can't be reproduced like these. They are truly irreplaceable.

Alice in Wonderland Necklaces

With Tim Burton's rendition of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland coming out in theaters soon, Disney Couture released two necklaces inspired by the novel and film.
Both unique necklaces were designed by Tim Binns. The charms and trinkets on the necklace are well known images from Alice in Wonderland.

I loved the use of color and detailing on the skirt and the blouse adds an interesting detail to the set.

H&M The Garden Collection

I can't believe it took me almost a month to learn about H&M's new "Garden Collection".
As an avid shopper of H&M and an environmentalist, I am extremely pleased that the store has released a collection produced of recycled polyester, organic cotton and organic linen.
Besides buying things from thrift stores, it can be difficult to purchase "eco-friendly" clothing as they are usually high in price.
As always, H&M is able to sell these goods at an affordable price. Here are a few of my favorite things!
This jacket is tres, tresbelle!

At about $60, it's a pretty big steal. It reminds me so much of Valentino. It could definentley be dressed up or down. For a very simple look, it could be worn over a white or black dress with heels. And for a more casual look, with jean shorts and flats and a white shirt.

Floral shorts are definentley another thing I need to add for Spring Wardrobe essentials. They embody a very chic look.

This embroidered dress gives a very Frida Kahlo look. Very breezing to wear on the beach but fun to wear in the city. I've been looking for a great embroidered top or dress since last summer, so this one could be it.

A delicate racer back top. It reminds me of summer so much, too bad we should be expecting more snow soon.

I love the shape of these flowers. They have an organic and crooked look that ultimately makes them look very sweet.

Petal Perfection-A great dress for all those summer events. The little white dress of the spring and summer.

What a perfect tea party dress! No only kidding. I really like the unexpected use of mixed prints on this dress. While it can give a childish undertone, it could be paired with a leather jacket for a more age appropriate look.

Speaking of leather jackets! It so happens that apart of the collection is this tan colored moto jacket. While I really love the classic black leather jacket, this nude look is very trendy. It translates well into spring and summer very well, but don't have any fear of wearing nude in the fall or winter.

The 90's are back, there's no denying it. While we can leave some things there, example denim overalls! These flower print leggings have to come. The 90's were my childhood years so I'm growing nostalgic about the times I wore teal and purple leggings. I'm pretty sure I had floral printed ones, not too sure I'll have to ask my mom, but ANYWAYS these leggings are very charming.
I saw a pair alike to these at Forever 21 for $6, but silly me decided to opt for something else. When I went yesterday to check if there was a pair left they were all out. So I may just have to get these.

And for the finale of this list, a high hued draped dress for the evening. This dress is definitely a memorable one-so I would wear it for a great occasion! This has to be my absolute favorite from the entire collection. Besides having a lovely print-which is available in other parts of the collection-the draping is beautiful.

Very appropriate that the collection is full of florals and the color palette is very springy. Also anyone that knows my style well, recognizes that I have an absolute love for anything with floral.

Sushi Specials

Not very style related but a very big picture post.
A few weeks ago I went out with my brother and cousin for sushi in Woodley Park. The sushi was very delicious, but we accidently ordered more rolls than we could finish. Oops!

Miso soup...essential for a cold day and before any sushi meal.

I believe this was a salmon with cream cheese roll and and shrimp tempura? The middle roll was very interesting. I didn't experiment with the flavor my brother did. It's quail egg with caviar.

The volcano roll..there was a lot of flavor in this. It was also very fulfilling.

Actually that was the shrimp tempura roll. Delicious of course!

There were a few other rolls I believe including fried oyster. We ordered more than we could finish but we just ended up bagging up the rest and bringing it home.

Woodley Park is very scenic. I don't know why but I always feel like I'm in another city when I'm there. It's a cute neighborhood unfortunately many of my photographs came out to be blurry.
I went out of my way to photograph the area for my photography class with the non digital camera, but the development process didn't go so well. I rolled the film poorly so not all of the negatives touched the chemicals so some of my prints didn't develop.
Anyways here's one of the few photographs of Woodley Park. A lot of restaurants hang lights outside. I just thought these were cute.

Spring-Summer 2010 Pre Fall Collection

The other day I was flipping through the pages of Harper's Bazaar when I saw the sweetest pair of Chanel earrings. Afterwards, I looked on the Chanel website and unfortunantley they were not posted but I found other pieces I liked. I really like this collection, it's very sweet especially with Valentine's Day right around the corner. Anyways, here are my favorite pieces, enjoy!

Spring Wardrobe

Honestly my winter in the District has not been the worst but around this time is when I start to feel bored with this season and ready for spring. Along with spring comes the decrease of layers. No longer will I have to walk around with 4 layers on, heavy duty socks and a bulky winter coat...okay so the winter here has not been that horrible but you get the picture. So I have compiled a list of things I would like to add to my wardrobe.

One of the top most things I want for my wardrobe period is a khaki trench coat. Along with the little black dress I think the trench coat is one of the classiest pieces any woman or girl can add to their wardrobe. Think Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly at the end of Breakfast at Tiffany's.

My dream piece would be a Burberry trench coat, but until I have my own income my hunt for one less expensive begins!

One of my favorite options I came across is from Urban Outfitters. The back detail is what caught my attention the most. It adds such a subtle dedicate detail. It would be a perfect light jacket to wear on chilly days and maybe even to wear on rainy day alike to Holly.

DC enjoys its fair share of rainy days along with a trench coat the umbrella and trench one should own a pair on comfortable chic rain boots. The look of Hunter boots is so traditional and refined but it comes in a variety of colors to fit your personality. Since I'm in my silver phase one I would like to own a pair but I think I'm going to shy away and opt for a neutral color like glossy pea green. Another thing I enjoy about these wellingtons is that you can purchase these cozy socks for insulation and for more of a colored touch.

Salve! So this is a bit on an introduction post. Initially this blog was going to be primarily jewelery of my own and highlighting high end jewelery hence the blog name "treasured trinkets" but I decided to make it a photo journal with writing about my life. Fashion is a huge passion of mine so often I will post commentary on fashion news and runway shows. Other things I plan on posting include art, culture, music, food, etc. I own a photo tumblr journal as well but it has hardly any commentary included.
